Low-density fast-setting SMC

SMC has been widely used in various fields because of its excellent moldability, physical properties, surface smoothness and coloring feasibility. SMC typically contains glass fiber to maintain its strength and also uses calcium carbonate as a filler in consideration of the surface properties of the molded part and the flow of material during molding. Therefore, the density of molded parts is as high as 1.85 ~ 2.3g / cm2.
To meet the demand for low fuel consumption, light-weight materials for automobiles we have developed SMC materials with 1.5 ~ 1.6 level of density SMC materials by using lightweight filler and optimizing the mixing process. However, low-density SMC tend to perform poorer than existing products in terms of fracture of lightweight filler in the molding process and the property value. Also, conventional SMC requires a curing time of about 60 seconds per 1 mm when molding. This is a very unfavorable situation for improving productivity in production plants. We have developed fast-setting SMC sheet, which requires curing time of 40 second per mm through development of Resin, changing the type of initiator developing recipe. Still, fast-setting SMC still have some persisting challenges such as mold and press speed.

RTM mold (upper and lower type)

- The RTM method is a method to produce bulky products with excellent quality without blisters. A reinforcing agent is pre-arranged to the mold, and after tightening, the mold is cured by filling the resin with pressure.
- The advantage of this method, especially in comparison with hand lay-up method, is that it’s possible to produce products with excellent inner and outer surfaces. Also, because it is not influenced significantly by the arrangement structure of reinforcing agent, it is possible to manufacture products with excellent properties.
- Manufactured products include Seoul Subway Line 5 interior, and vehicle body of Samsung electric vehicles, and Kia Motors’ Elan Sports Car vehicle body components.

LTRM Method

The material is laminated on the upper and lower FRP molds, and the resin is injected to manufacture the product.

Resin Transfer Molding Process

Prepreg Vacuum Forming Method

This is a high temperature vacuum molding method using prepreg.

NIGHT VISION(Thermal imaging camera)

Hanguk Mold Co., Ltd. Is currently developing NIGHT VISION, a thermal camera in cooperation with Russian company ROS.
It is a system that prevents accident by preempting dangerous situation by securing the driver’s sight and informing
him of risk in advanced in nighttime and poor-visibility condition driving situations.

  • Technology Status

    The technology that was used in night battles in the military is now rapidly shifting from military technology to a civilian one. Currently, there is no original technology or application available in Korea, with the only available one being produced by a US company.

  • Main technology specification

    Currently, this technology is applied only in brands Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. It typically provides more than four times visibility compared to car headlight, a wide viewing angle and automatic recognition.

  • Market status

    The market is growing at an annual rate of 20~30% since 2009. Image recognition is being utilized from the current 3rd generation. The technology is applied to about 37 car models, primarily from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz.
